Be the difference.

It all began with an idea. Ours came when we learned that almost half the produce at farmers’ markets is left unsold and tossed each and every week. Now it’s time to stop the waste execute on our idea for sustainability.

About Us

Gianni and Philip are 12th grade students at Crystal Springs Uplands School in Hillsborough, California. They created this Initiative over a year ago. During his free time, Gianni enjoys playing school and club basketball, and Philip is a competitive junior golfer. Gianni and Philip also have a food blog where they post reviews of their favorite local restaurants that support the idea of sustainability. With this Farm to Family Initiative, we have led the effort to help reduce food waste while increasing revenues for our farmer suppliers and providing inexpensive fresh produce to our community.

We have led the effort to help reduce food waste while providing basic means of food for low income communities.

Our platform From Farm to Family allows us to make a difference in a variety of ways within our local community. First and foremost, we are able to reduce food waste by providing farmers with an alternative to composting their surplus produce. We buy the surplus produce from local farmers. In doing so, farmers are able to generate more revenue by simply selling the surplus produce, at a price where they are still able to generate a profit. We then sell the fresh surplus produce at an affordable price to our local community, especially low-income families. We are trying to make a positive impact on some of the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, but more importantly, connecting our local farmers to a broader base of the community.

Owen Dubeck, a founder of the nonprofit organization Farmlink, recently visited Our School to share with us his award-winning documentary Abundance.  Farmlink was established during the pandemic when a few college students noticed the issue with food insecurity and decided to transport excess food from farms to food banks in need. Farmlink has since transported millions of pounds of food to people in need and they are only getting started!

We share our passion with Owen and his project and will continue to do our part in our communicty.  View Abundance online.
